Creation of Electric Fields in Tokamak Plasmas
نویسنده
چکیده
In conjunction with energy and particle fuelling, considerable mechanical or electromagnetic momenta are transferred to fusion plasmas, e.g. through neutral beam injection, limiter re cycling, pellet injection and RF heating. The build up of electric Fields through charge separation in the momentum absorption process is estimated for somewhat simplified cases of neutral particle injection and recycling. It is shown that for the parameters of large present-day tokamak devices remarkable electric field strengths of the order of 5 • 105 Volt/m can be created both in the plasma regions of beam absortion and near limiters.

Diffusion of charged particles in tokamak-like stochastic magnetic and electric fields
In this paper the diffusion of guiding centers induced by stochastic magnetic and electric field fluctuations, with both time and space dependence, is analyzed for the case of tokamak plasmas. General experimental results on tokamak fluctuations are used to derive guidingcenter equations that properly describe the particle motion. These equations assume uniform average magnetic and electric fie...

Particle transport in thermonuclear plasmas depends basically on the number of directions of symmetry in the plasma configuration. The search for toroidal confinement devices alternative to the tokamak has led to systems like the stellarator, heliac, etc., all with less symmetry and consequently enhanced diffusion, especially at low collisionality regimes. Even for the tokamak, asymmetry effect...

Recently, there has been a great deal of importance associated with the effects of magnetic field ergodization in the dynamics of fusion grade plasmas. It is believed that ergodization of the edge magnetic fields can effectively mitigate ELMs and thus improve the confinement properties. The role of the edge electric fields has also generated a lot of interest. We have carried an experimental sc...
